A Character Education Visual Art Kit

This unit encourages students to consider the importance of team work and honesty in sports and in life. Students learn to apply positive character traits to situations that occur when participating in competitive sports. Spectator appropriate behaviors at sporting events are addressed, as well as the Olympic Games and the design of Olympic architecture.
Each art reproduction featured in this set engages students’ interests and reinforces character traits they can relate to in their lives and in sports. Each activity presented in this unit has been field-tested. The Teacher’s Guide is presented in K-3 and 4-9 formats. Sample lessons are flexible so that teachers may adapt each one to the specific needs of their classrooms. Each lesson features:
- Historical information about the artist and the artwork;
- Discussion topic for each lesson;
- Guided Looking using an easy 4-step process of art critique known as the Feldman Model;
- Activity related to Character Education;
- Studio projects in two-dimension and three-dimension;
- Assessment guidelines;
- Suggested websites and resources.
